Which tense in the most correct to use?

For number 1, I think both the present continuous and present simple are correct. It is not working. It is broken. For example, if you are trying to start a lawnmower. I think that it is possible to use both. If there is a reason why only the present simple can be used , please let me know.

I think you're right.
If you think you are right, you're right - you think... There is no context that the speaker is standing over the lawnmower. Ergo, the right tense would be Present Simple. Cheers :)
Btw. that was the example no. 2. For no. 1, the "at the moment" time indicator suggests Present Continuous:D
In my opinion the correct answer for number 4 is in the present simple because LOOK (seem) is a state verb. It is an active verb when it means see. According to the English gramma,r we have to use the present simple with STATE VERBS. Write soon luisfer
