Past Participle

Past participle is one of the verb forms. It is used to form the perfect aspect (and hence the perfect tenses):

  • The elephant has eaten
  • John has been there
  • She said she had given you the keys

Verbs can either be regular or irregular.

The other uses of the past participle are:

  • modifying a noun, passive sense: the attached documents
  • modifying a verb or sentence, passive sense: Seen from this perspective, it is obvious that human nature is bad
