There are two major differences between will form and be going to:
1. Be going to implies that your prediction is based on observing the present situation. While will implies that your predictions are based your opinion (intuition).
2. Be going to usually refers to the near future. While will doesn't refer to any specific moment (it may sometimes concern very far future).
